Eight: Simple Acts of Love - Julia

Today, we have a post from one of my very dear friends, Julia.

Julia and I met two years ago when we joined our sorority, Psi, and realized we were also in Nutrition 1020 together.
We bonded quickly to survive Thunder Jalili's lectures (yes, that was our professor's name), the awkward sorority/fraternity exchanges on Thursday nights, and we've been friends ever since.

I have always loved going on Temple trips after Nutrition 1020, Psi retreats/sleepovers, going to Lagoon, and movies and frozen yogurt together. I love talking to her about everything in life, everything from political views to blogging to our love lives (or sometimes, lack thereof). We can go months without doing anything and we can still always laugh and have fun together.

I'm excited for you guys to read this post.
Go check out her blog here!

First off, I'd like to thank Catherine for letting me take over her blog for a day. She's so brave. I had a lot of fun putting this post together so thanks for the opportunity!

To start, my name is Julia and I'm a hopeless romantic. If there was a hopeless romantic support group, I would probably be the chairman. I started out believing in fairy-tale love stories, you know, the type of story where you meet Prince Charming, he sweeps you off your feet, he finds some grand way to profess his love for you and then you ride off into the sunset to live happily ever after. That kind of story was always the one I wanted for myself. But slowly I learned that love is far different from the stories we grew up with. Love isn't always the kinds of things we see in movies or read in books. Love isn't always easy and never effortless. The older I've become the more I've come to realize that while grand love stories are great, it's the little things we do to show we love someone that matter the most in life.

So on that note, here's a little list of the simple ways he shows his love for you, and ways you can show your love for him:

Love is smiling during a kiss.
Love is a bear hug.
Love is getting up to help her with something right when you sit down to relax.
Love is leaving a sweet little note in your lover's pocket for them to find later.
Love is straightening his tie.
Love is waking up to a "Good morning beautiful" text message.
Love is stopping to get her favorite kind of ice cream on the way home from work.
Love is letting him watch CNN when 'The Bachelor' is on.
Love is letting her vent when she's having a bad day.
Love is a kiss on the forehead when you've fallen asleep.
Love is breakfast in bed.
Love is saying "I'm sorry" even when you think you're right.
Love is telling her you think she's beautiful every single day.
Love is letting him pick the movie.
Love is coming home to your favorite meal.
Love is simply being their best friend.
Love is a bouquet of flowers, just because.
Love is having tickle fights.
Love is knowing exactly what to order him without even asking.
Love is listening and remembering.
Love is a call just to make sure she's okay.
Love is letting her have the last piece of chocolate cake.
Love is when he takes your car to get the oil changed.
Love is holding hands and going for a walk around the park.
Love is making chicken noodle soup when he's sick.
Love is letting her cry on your nicest shirt.

Just because he doesn't do the things you expect or want, he still shows his love for you in his own special way. He may not stand outside your window with a boom-box or follow you all the way to Paris to win you back. He may not fight for your honor on a battlefield or make a candlelight dinner to share on the top of the Empire State Building. It's the littlest things he does that really show what kind of man he is.

What are some of your favorite things your special someone does to show they care?
