"I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again." -Benjamin Button

When we went to California this summer, I was in the middle of digging deep to find myself once again and to discover the person I was also trying to become. I felt like I was on an emotional and mental roller-coaster this summer and I needed to just come to a stop. This was the point I feel like I came to a stop at least for a while.

I was just so blissfully happy, standing at the waves. I was in a place I loved so much, but I also knew three things and adopted them as my mottos: I can do hard things, I have been blessed with wonderful family and friends, and everything will work out how it's supposed to.

There are waves of good and bad; they are constant. And I find that fact to be so very wonderful. I had six resolutions this year and I did well on all six, for the most part. Sometimes I felt like the waves came up and washed away the sandcastles I built and like the ocean has a way of making you feel very small, I sometimes felt very inadequate compared to the enormity of tasks and challenges put in front of me. But many times, I felt like I was surrounded by many beautiful and wonderful things happening in my life, just like a beautiful sunset or feeling the sand beneath my feet. Someone who is perfect knows the plan and I trust Him to lead the way.

Looking back on each year of my life, I am thankful for another year for the growing, the meaningful things, the setbacks, and the lessons that are helping me to become a better person. And trust me, I'm going to need many more years to get everything right.

I love the following quote and I hope that in this past year and the year to come, we can remember these words.

"For what it's worth: It's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again." -Benjamin Button, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008)
